A boat carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza has arrived in Lebanon after being turned back by the Israeli navy. The Dignity set off from Cyprus on Monday carrying three tons of emergency and medical supplies. Activists on board say it was rammed by an Israeli ship but the navy says it was an accident. Mohammed Vall reports.

When "Great Southern Land" was released as the first single from the Primitive Man album in 1982, a video for it was filmed in a disused sandstone quarry in the Kuringai National Park near Sydney. Then, in 1989, when the song met its first release as a single in North America and Europe, a new clip had to be made to accompany the overseas single. This time, the background Australian landscapes were provided by the Myall Lakes National Park on the mid-north coast of New South Wales. As befits the song, both clips were, of course, typically Australian in content, but the earlier one did feature a few Australian native animals, including a large goanna crawling across barren sandy earth. This latter typical Australian had obviously won many fans, since, when the new clip appeared there were quite a few appeals for "the one with the goanna." The result was that both "Great Southern Land" clips had to be included in the commercial video released in 1989. (www.spellbound-icehouse.org)

He was born Iain Matthew McDonald, 16 June 1946,Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. Influenced by both rock and roll and folk music,he has performed mainly as a solo act,although he was a member of Fairport Convention during the early period when they were heavily influenced by American West Coast folk rock. He later had a solo career and fronted the bands Plainsong and Matthews Southern Comfort. Matthews grew up in a working-class family in Scunthorpe England. He sang with several minor bands during the British pop music explosion of the mid-1960s.He moved to London in 1966, taking a job in a Carnaby Street shoe shop. Here are some videos of a tent city / shanty town that has popped up in the suburbs of Southern California. I've never seen anything like this in America since the great depression. At first it seems as though many of the residents had lost their houses due to the mortgage crisis, and I am sure some had, but it seems rather that most here have just fell on hard times due to the economy in Souther California in general. The tent city has been removed by the city and no longer exists to my knowledge. We only went there a few times, as our major work is in Los Angeles with the homeless on Skid Row.
