    I think it said 37 on the CD, but someone recently commented it was 36. Either way, it was right about then. The original version was written by the Gershwin brothers, and debuted in the Broadway musical Porgy and Bess in 1935. The song was written for a male character.

    Notice the way she uses a rotary-like effect when singing her notes, also, notice the quick pitch change when she sings the word "rise"! She used these techniques to compensate for the lack of range in her voice. she was the master of this technique! This technique is used by modern pop artists today such as Chrisette Michele, John Legend, and even Erykah Badu.
