In truth, she put them on the map & they were jealous. Sam Andrew and James Gurley won acclaim in Billboard Magazine as writing one of the top ten psychedelic guitar solo pieces of ALL TIME for Summertime. They were more known, because originally, it was just BBHC when she joined them. Only later was it Janis Joplin & BBHC. By then she was ready to leave. Peace

I mean I love the music probably more for the guitars than her singing; this is just probably because I play guitar but she is a great singer none-the-less.
